Troy Deeney believes Mikel Arteta risks losing his job as early as THIS weekend.

The Arsenal manager is facing serious criticism following Sunday’s north London derby defeat by Tottenham, which leaves the Gunners in 15th place having gained only 13 points from 11 matches.

Arsenal face Burnley on Sunday, with the Clarets visiting the Emirates knowing a win could take them out the relegation zone and drag the Gunners closer to the bottom three.

And another defeat would have Arteta at risk of being sacked, Deeney claimed on Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast.

“I actually said on [last week’s] show I fancied Arsenal to get a result,” began Deeney, “because they are that kind of team where they can just pull one out the bag.

“But I’ll happily say I was massively wrong.

“Arsenal are in trouble. I’m happy for them that they are at home, but if they were playing Burnley away this week I’d be very nervous for them.

“I think he [Arteta] has to come under criticism, ultimately because of where they are.

“For me, and I’ll go out on a limb here, if they lose [to Burnley] he is massively under pressure.

“I’d be surprised, if they lose and the ones around them win, and they are looking more backwards than upwards, he would be under pressure to keep his job.”

Losing to Burnley could see Arsenal end next weekend only four points clear of the relegation zone, and serious questions would be asked over whether the Gunners could seriously fall out the Premier League.

We are still in the early stages of the season, however, and Arsenal fan Darren Bent insists his beloved club are just ‘too good’ to be relegated.

“Arsenal have got good players and I like Arteta, and I think they have got the players to get them out,” said ex-Tottenham striker Bent on talkSPORT.

“All it takes is Aubameyang to hit a bit of form, Lacazette to start scoring some goals… a little bit of something.

“They are too good to go down.”
